Cara is a highly experienced therapist with over 20 years of working with youth and families, specializing in behavioral health for children, adolescents, and adults. Her experience spans from early intervention to secure care, and she has worked with individuals facing a range of complex behavioral health issues, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance abuse, behavioral challenges, and adjustment disorders. Additionally, Cara has expertise in addressing court-ordered individuals dealing with sex-specific issues, domestic violence, and theft reform.
Certified in suicide prevention and trained in assessment tools like the SPS and C-SSRS, Cara has extensive experience in managing crises and conducting risk assessments, ensuring that her clients’ safety and mental health needs are prioritized. As a former suicide prevention trainer for the Department of Juvenile Justice Services (DJJS), she has developed a deep understanding of the intersection between mental health and behavioral issues, allowing her to provide integrated, holistic care for those in crisis.
Cara’s approach to therapy is both holistic and humanistic, integrating behavioral health principles to treat the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. She utilizes evidence-based practices while thinking outside the box to create individualized, client-centered treatment plans. She is committed to empowering her patients by helping them understand the connection between their behaviors, emotions, and mental health, allowing them to build healthier coping strategies.
In her work, Cara incorporates the use of her therapy animals, Bailey and Lulu, to support a calming and engaging environment that enhances emotional regulation and trust-building in her sessions.
